Tweet of the Day - 7 March 2013

New Zealand has made a brilliant start to the test series against England. A combination of disciplined New Zealand bowling and some inept England batting has seen the visitors dismissed for a mere 167.

England's batting has prompted this:

Quite so. And long may the New Zealand batsmen keep hitting the ball along the ground into gaps. They are currently 28 without loss, and this is turning into a very good day's cricket.

I confess to being concerned the follow on figure might have been too large when the NZ team started batting.

My pessimism was misplaced and we seem touch wood to have had one of the better opening stands in recent memory.

Incredible day of test cricket, maybe the best I have ever been alive to see. To early to say that we can dominate England all series though. http://linesongrass.wordpress.com/2013/03/07/one-swallow-is-insufficient-for-a-summer/

Nice post at your blog awbraae; I will add you to my blog-roll.

It was a fantastic day for New Zealand today. In an ideal world, the Black Caps would build from here to a lead of at least 350 and really turn the screws on the English. However having followed New Zealand cricket teams for over 50 years, I take nothing for granted.

Credit where it's due though on a wonderful team performance today.

QH - no risk of a follow on as it is 200 in tests.

The danger now is being clened out tomorrow for around 300 - 450 must be a minimum total s we only want to bt once in this test. I would not want to see us chasing 150 on the last day to win.

Quite right pdm; a couple of hundreds, with one of them being a big hundred could bat England out of the game. Given the state of the game at stumps tonight, I would hope that the Black Caps are aiming to bat only once in this match.

Thank you very much KS, much appreciated. You are right to be wary of the Black Caps I think, as long as I've been following they have been consistently inconsistent.
