Cactus Kate points out an interesting turn of events:
So we can't help but wonder; will those who slagged off John Banks for declaring that he believed the Biblical account of creation now pour scorn on David Shearer? In particular, will those Labour and Green MP's who mocked Banks for his Christian beliefs via social media burst into life ridiculing Shearer's Taniwha confession?

And the left have said he hasn't said he believes in Taniwha just that the belief should be respected.
None seem to have respected John Banks' beliefs.
Shearer "the belief in Taniwha cannot be simply dismissed as irrelevant".
Of course it can. Just like Banks' belief in Genesis was.
At least the Christians don't want cash to go away.
There's a difference between metaphors and symbolism and literal belief. Someone who believes the world is actually 6,000 years old and that humans hung out with dinosaurs doesn't deserve respect. In fact, they're liable to tell you any sort of easily falsifiable fabrication, now aren't they?
Welcome back Edward!
Can you prove that the Biblical account of creation is a fabrication?
Are you suggesting that the weight of evidence isn't overwhelmingly against a literal interpretation of Genesis? How old do you think the earth is?
Which is more believable?
The Biblical account of creation, or Key's claim that he can't remember his position on the Springbok Tour?
* Answer - both are fabrications
