Year after year, the Chiefs have started Super Rugby with a hiss and a roar, only to hit the wall in the important stages of the season when issues such as fatigue, depth (or the lack thereof) and consistency kick in. Overnight, they've beaten the Sharks in Durban giving them an outstanding 2-from-2 in South Africa, and seven wins on the trot.
So we cant help but wonder this; is the 2012 edition of the Chiefs the real deal, and is the power base of New Zealand rugby shifting?

Dave Rennie, IMHO, is an All Black coach of the near future. He is a no-nonsense motivator than gets his players believing in themselves, and their ability to perform way above their expectations.
A bloke who knows a lot more about rugby than I do (which isn't difficult) was telling me about the Chiefs last night and reckons they're the team which has won the most Super whatever-number-we're up-to games.
Blackadder, Rennie and Joseph - could be a top combination. Realists and proven performers.
Chiefs are on fire. Include the Perth match and that is three in a row on tour. My Highlanders are on their tour now and hope they can follow the Chiefs example. Agree about Rennie. It will be a tight contest pdm.
