Green hyperbole

Toad, the Green Party's anonymous website presence has excelled him/herself today. Toad is protesting at the decision by the University of Canterbury to confer an Honorary Doctorate on Ruth Richardson. And he/she concludes his/her blog post with this little gem (with our emphasis added):

Richardson was the author of the Mother of all Budgets, slashing welfare benefits and introducing charges for healthcare and massively hiking fees for tertiary education.

Today, the oldest of the Children of the Mother of all Budgets are in their late teens or early twenties. They are frequently those who have never had paid employment, those whose families have been devastated by poverty, and the suicide victims who Te Ururoa Flavell now wants to be buried outside the entrance to the urupa, where they can be condemned forever.

Ruth Richardson caused this. She is the most evil New Zealander of the last century. She should be vilified, not honoured by the University of Canterbury with a doctorate she didn’t even study for.

Toad should be ashamed of him/herself. We would have expected better than this kind of hyperbole from the party that regards itself as more principled than any other. And to the anonymous commenter who has attached him/herself to Keeping Stock over the last few days accusing us of being nasty to Phil Goff, might we say this; there's nastiness; and it comes from the Left.

Careful Jabba; my anonymous friend will be along to tell me off for the language you use!

Personally, I'd rate this dude as far more evil...

I'm on the itelephone again, so no links, but it's worth pointing out that Ruth was our (or at least my) favourite MEP Dan Hannan's pick to replace DSK as head of the IMF...I'm a pom, so ignoring me is part of your DNA, but I reckon NZ should be proud of her.

Yes, I can see why you're so insensed about that statement.
Everyone here at Keeping Stock knows that Helen Clark the bilious bitch shrew is the most evil New Zealander of all time, we are told that here over and over again and each time someone says it, Inventory2 loudly declares that they should be ashamed of themselves, don't you Inventory2, because you wouldn't want to be accused of HYPOCRISY.
Wood ya!

For the record Anon, I have never described Helen Clark as "evil", nor have I ever called her a "bilious bitch".

The comments made here represent the opinion of those who make them. My policy is to leave them in place wherever possible, and let people make their own judgment as to their merits, as you have done. In four years of blogging I have probably deleted less than 20 comments out of around 20,000. They have generally been off-topic, or abusive towards myself. Your post yesterday morning came close, so take that as your first and only warning.

In the meantime, it's better for your comment to remain, so that people can just IT, and judge your motivation, just as they judge other comments and just as you have judged comments. May I also suggest that if you are going to comment here regularly, get yourself a Blogger alias and use it, and you might find that people will engage with you in a mature and reasonable fashion.

For the record, IV2 I regard Clark as the most evil creep to have ever emerged from this country....she's gone whew!

Ruth Richardson made some tough, necessary and difficult calls. The Toad cannot see courage when it is before it.

Our new found friend and fast becoming bosom buddy, anonymous, smells just slightly of dear Robbie Guyton, don't you think?

Cheers

No, it's not Robert Lofty; the writing style is completely different.

But there's a certain irony in him/her trying to take the moral high ground whilst slagging me off for the choices I make in a fashion far worse than anything he/she criticises me for.

Anon is correct in one thing, the bilious bitch was the most evil New Zealander of all time.

The great and good (very) Honorable Ruth Richardson (who should have at least the highest honour NZ can bestow beside her name) will go down in history as only second to the also great and good Sir Roger Douglas in importance to the advancement of NZ as a country.

She is certainly far above vandalistic communist scum.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this post is about a something someone said in a comment on another blog.
That heinous statement was that a certain female ex-politician was 'evil'.
The author of this blog found that shameful.
In response, several people on this blog chose a different female ex-politician and called her 'evil' but our host made no comment about their statements at all.
Intellectually dishonest and hypocritical that is. I guess you might consider that the underlying theme of this blog but then there are none so blind as those who will not see, so I suppose I'll get no sensible reply from him and certainly nothing but shallow name calling from his 'guests'.
All in all, a nasty little nest this.

Au contraire Anon; your host said this:

The comments made here represent the opinion of those who make them. My policy is to leave them in place wherever possible, and let people make their own judgment as to their merits, as you have done.

Commenters of all political hues express opinions here. One in particular (a Green Party activist from Riverton) has strong opinions about John Key and Don Brash and their respective parties. He has posted them here on numerous occasions. I don't agree with most of what he says, but the comments by and large remain because they show that nastiness is not the sole preserve of the Right as Lefties so often allege.

These things go both ways. Don't be so blinded by your ideology that in trying to get me to remove the speck of sawdust from my eye you miss the piece of 4x2 in yours.

Yet you feel comfortable taking the comments from another blog and laying your judgement on them.
I don't expect that you can see the dilemma but that's the way you roll, fair dripping with hypocrisy. However, my efforts to reflect your actions back to you for your edification cease here.

But it's okay, I understand.

"But research reveals that authoritarian followers drive through life under the influence
of impaired thinking a lot more than most people do, exhibiting sloppy reasoning,
highly compartmentalized beliefs, double standards, hypocrisy, self-blindness, a
profound ethnocentrism, and--to top it all off--a ferocious dogmatism that makes it
unlikely anyone could ever change their minds with evidence or logic."

Well I will call Clark evil, bilious bitch and far worse. Her changes to birthing in this country in the 80's and early 90s has caused hundreds of needless deaths. She truly is the baby killer of NZ politics.
