Shark alert!

We've just read this on Stuff:

Wanganui Police have had reports of a shark swimming up the Wanganui River.

It was last seen at about 12.10pm about 200 metres north of the Dublin Street bridge.

"We ask users of the river to be aware of this," a police spokesperson said.

We can't help but wonder what Michael Laws is doing today; especially when the spelling of "Wanganui" with reference to the river is minus an H ...

First thought was not Laws, but IV2 had taken to swimming in the brown sewer that is the Wanganui River.

It's not a sewer any more PM; bodily waste is now processed properly and discharged far out to sea. They actually restarted the old bridge to bridge swimming race a few years ago, the course of which is around where the shark was apparently sighted today

When I was over there a month or so ago, it still looked dirty brown to me. People actually swim in that?

Some do; it's very tidal; when the high tide is in in summer, there's blue water all the way past the town bridge. The brown is due to all the papa rock upcountry; it's not an alluvial river like the Manawatu

My thoughts echoed PMofNZ's first post and the report I saw in the Herald had an H in Wanganui.

Can't have been me as I was in a bus travelling to New Plymouth, as the plane we were on couldn't land there so had to divert to Wanganui.
Crossed a few places in NZ of the bucket list yesterday.
Leaving New Plymouth this morning was touch and go with minimal visiblity, but home now. Yahoo!
