The Mayor and the Indians

Has North Shore City's Mayor Andrew Williams finally lost the plot? It would appear so. He now thinks that he's General Custer, and that the Indians are surrounding him.

How do we know this? We've seen the e-mail. Yes, the very same e-mail that some good citizen sent to the Sunday Star-Times on Friday, and about which Jonathan Marshall has written this morning. And to make matters worse, it was sent from the computer of Cr Ken McKay, who just happens to be a member of Williams' infamous A-Team. WhaleOil has all the background on that little indiscretion.

Anyway, here's what we mean:

Hi Julia
Lot's going on here while you're away. I now know how General Custer felt surrounded by a thousands Indians wanting his blood. But on this occasion me thinks that right will win through and the "dark forces" will evetually
be put down.

I'm getting an amazing amount of support from all over the place. A lot even want me to stand for central politics...now there's a thought!! Why just sort out the city when there's a whole country under attack?? The following are two very typical emails:

"Sir,
Best wishes for the coming months, those swine on the “right” really don’t like the light that you and others are shining on the “Super City” implementation.
I sincerely hope that the Cit Rats and their fellow travellers get trounced in the October Elections.""

""The personal attacks on you are in my view, orchestrated and very deliberate – and I am not a conspiracy theorist. There are many parties who should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. I am a fairly apolitical person – and have views that some would (mistakenly) see as a mix of centre right and very left at the same time. I prefer to say that I want what is sensible and clearly right and just. This country has been on its knees because of rabid, idealogue change-merchants in my view, since Roger Douglas started putting our nations treasures on trademe to the highest – and insider bidders. It can get off its knees again – but only when people like you are allowed to do your job.I’ve had a gutsful of populists – and of being lied to and bullied by successive Governments. Rodney Hide and his party are the most dangerous thing to have appeared yet, in NZ politics. Apologies for rabbiting on – but when I have sat there and seen what has been done to you I’ve fumed and used a lot of bad language. This nation may (I believe) never recover from more sell-offs and restructure (of which the supercity is both – and only the beginning). In my view you need a measured, very controlled campaign – where the real Andrew Williams is clearly presented and maintained consistently. Don’t let the knockers get you down your worship – they are little people of no substance. Cowardice and populist sniping is a common blight at all levels of society.Kind Regards""

So, it's good that it's Easter and also Parliamentary recess for the next few weeks. A little time for a breather before I launch my next exocet missile at Hide et al. Must go....need a good nights rest after being out on the harbour most of today. And there is never a tree out there handy when you need one urgently!!

Have a nice time in Epheus Julia. I'm sure it will be very revealing those revelations!
Cheers
General “Andrew” Custer

Now of course this is just one e-mail in a series. Another in that series, sent on Easter Sunday had Williams likening himself to Jesus. You don't believe us? Read on:

Now, we think that it's great that Williams acknowledges that Jesus did indeed die on the cross then raise from the dead, the central tenet of the Christian faith. But we think it's in extremely bad taste to make such a reference on one of Christianity's most important days. Imagine the outcry had he made a similar reference to Mohamed, or one of the Eastern deities.

Andrew Williams has been on a path to self-destruction for a number of months now. How can he be a credible candidate at this year's local body elections? He's allowed his hatred of Rodney Hide to become all-consuming; it's almost as though it is his raison d'etre, his sole reason for existing.

And in all of this, he's doing the ratepayers and residents of North Shore City a huge disservice. Even from our vantage point far away in W(h)anganui, we can see that they are not getting the representation they deserve.

The real George Armstrong Custer is reputed to have said

There are not enough Indians in the world to defeat the Seventh Cavalry.

It seems that his latter-day counterpart is similarly deluded.
