New Zealand Music Month - 7/5/2009

Here's a piece of classic Kiwiana, although it's not the original version. The character of Fred Dagg first entered our consciousness in 1974 with a satirical story on Country Calendar, introducing us to Fred, with his many sons named Trev. Comedian John Clarke subsequently took his character on an amazing journey of TV, recording, and even a stage show tour! Along the way, he even had a couple of hit songs, of which this is one.

This isn't the original version; the song was re-released in 2000 in collaboration with Ric Salizzo, Graham Hill and the Sports Cafe crew, and we reckon it's a flippin' good reminder that in these recessionary times, we indeed don't know how lucky we are...enjoy

I thought one of us would have to do this one.

Indeed Ele - and I'm actually a bit surprised it took this long! But it's a very good song to be humming in these uncertain economic times, don'tcha reckon.

And are there any Trevs or Bruces on the farms down your way?

Inevitably we will have some duplicates, for example HP and I re Hog Snort Rupert, but I am surprised by how few too date.

Actually, this was going to be mine for today too - wanted a mid-late '90s clip.

I jsut wish there was a clip of Fred Dagg's 'Not a Bad Day for It'. Anyone else recall that?

I liked it more than 'Gumboots', personally. It was on an EP he put out around 1977 called 'FRed dagg's Boig Single'.

Its on a CD which came out last year. Great tune.
