So it seems. Newstalk ZB is reporting that list MP Melissa Lee is putting her name forward for the nomination as the National candidate for the Mt Albert by-election.
We reckon that Ms Lee would be an ideal candidate. Her speeches in Parliament so far have been excellent. She is articulate, urbane, and as an immigrant who has integrated very successfully, she can be marketed to the immigrant communities within the electorate as an example of just what can be achieved through perseverance and a desire to succeed.
We wish her well!

She is a confident young woman who'll go far...and is also very pleasant on the eye.
She is indeed easy on the eye mawm - in fact, I'd go as far to say she's even better looking than the Helen "body double" that Labour used on its 2008 billboards!
Doesn't that nullify the Tizzard threat as National would be doing the same thing, ie getting another person in on the list??
That sais Melissa Lee is National's best chance of getting the seat IMHO.
You're right in one sense Charmaine - it would open up another place from the list. The big difference is that the MP that National would gain is NOT Judith Tizard! It will be Cam Calder, who was briefly a list MP after the election before the Greens gained an extra MP after the counting of special votes.
