Flippin' Vista!

My new laptop has been working brilliantly, but I've jus had my first Vista hiccup - not being able to connect to the internet from where we are staying. I can get a local connection via the wireless router onsite, but not an internet connection, due, I'm told, to its incompatability with Vista.

Has anyone else out there encountered this kind of issue? Or better still, can anyone suggest a fix, short of buying a new operating system??!!

Sounds like someone is spinning you a yarn Mr Inventory2.

So long as you have TCP/IP (on bydefault with vista and xp) then there should be no issue. Vista/XP/Internet all use TCP/IP v4 so if you can connect to the wireless access point then there should be no reason why you can't get Internet connectivity.

Call me if you want further assistance.

Bart, it is no yarn. We have had issues with some places we visit that were no problem with XP.
The guts of it appears to be the Tcp/ip V6 that Vista ships with.
Example is Ventura Inn near Mangere airport. Wireless in lobby is ok but ethernet in rooms is a no go.
Ventura in rotorua is ok with wireless in rooms.
I used to have access at a friends place with Xp now unable to access with vista.

Have you tried the following:
Several problems occur on a Windows Vista-based computer when you work in a wireless network environment
